  • Goldman Sachs to Launch Cryptocurrency Trading Platform
Less than a week after the second big US exchange offered Bitcoin futures contracts, reports emerged that banking giant Goldman Sachs is planning to launch a trading desk for cryptocurrencies. According to the SCMP which cites ‘people familiar with the situation’ the bank aims to have the service running by mid-2018 if not earlier. Sources also claimed that it was still trying to decide on how to hold the digital assets and how to manage security issues. The move will signal the first major Wall Street firm to enter the cryptocurrency markets and make them available to its clients. With CBOE and CME already onboard, and TD Ameritrade soon to allow the trading of both sets of contracts, the spotlight has already been shone Bitcoin’s way. Other major financial institutions such as Citigroup and Bank of America are taking a ...

  • Bitcoin Price Technical Analysis for 12/22/2017 – Bears Settling In
Bitcoin Price Key Highlights Bitcoin price continues to trend lower and has just dipped below the $13,500 mark. Price seems to be drawing some support from this area, though, probably making its way up for a correction. Applying the Fib retracement tool shows the nearby inflection points that might serve as resistance. Bitcoin price is trending lower on its 1-hour time frame and might be due for a pullback to the area of interest at $16,000. Technical Indicators Signals The 100 SMA is below the longer-term 200 SMA to confirm that the path of least resistance is to the downside. This means that the selloff is more likely to resume than to reverse. The 61.8% Fib is closest to the falling trend line resistance that’s been holding for the past few days. It also coincides with the broken support at ...

  • Car Dealership Says It Will Accept Payment In Bitcoin
A rudimentary payments network that can only process - on average - about 7 transactions every 10 minutes isn’t deterring merchants from accepting bitcoin for large-scale purchases like homes and cars. To wit, the owner of a car dealership near Albany told a local news station that he will begin accepting bitcoin, as the Associated Press reported. Michael Severance, of Michael’s Auto Plaza, tells WTEN-TV the dealership recently started accepting the digital currency. Severance says he became interested in bitcoin as its value rose. The East Greenbush businessman says he wanted his dealership to take advantage of an opportunity.   Severance says he saw people buying large pieces of property with the digital currency and figured cars should be no different. Severence told a local TV station that the digital currency's staggering appreciation inspired him to accept it as ...

  • Should You Invest in Bitcoin in 2018?
There are lots of arguments on both sides why you should buy bitcoin or not. Many say that it is a bubble but they have said that for the past three years now. Governments do not know what to do about it and regulation is lagging behind technology which has created a boom in financial innovation. It has also created the unknown as never before has the history of the world monetary system undergone such major technological advances. The technology behind Bitcoin is the Blockchain and what this technology has done is make banks irrelevant for the first time in their history. You do not need human operators to check and regulate each financial transaction anymore or need to store it in financial institutions that are bankrupt both financially along with morally. This means that if situations happen like they ...

  • Call For EU To Draw Up New Bitcoin Regulation
Addressing regulatory concerns in regard to Bitcoin is proving to be quite a task, with nations eager to not repress innovation while also preventing financial malpractice and warning about investor risk. European Commission Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis has written a letter to the heads of financial regulation, responsible to the EU, urging for updated regulatory action specifically in regards to Bitcoin. In the letter, Dombrovskis writes: The developments relating to bitcoin and crypto-currencies in recent weeks require our heightened attention as a matter of urgency … in light of the recent market developments. Recent market developments saw Bitcoin’s price quickly rise from $14,000 to $20,000, although it is unclear why this increase should now make Bitcoin suddenly more relevant to regulators,  the ability to further regulate and grant necessary applicable licenses would appear to be being called for with an increased urgency. ...

  • If Bitcoin Is A Bubble…
Authored by Erik Norland via CMEGroup.com, Our earlier articles on bitcoin discuss the crypto asset as a currency and a commodity. Both papers focused on the consequences of bitcoin’s defining feature: the asymptotic supply limit of 21 million coins. This gives it an unusual juxtaposition of demand uncertainty and supply certainty (as well as inelasticity). As a currency, it gives rise to a tension between its use as a store of value and as medium of exchange. Like commodities, it has a mining cost of production that both influences and is influenced by price. Finally, we explored bitcoin’s demand dynamics and the problems posed by rising transaction costs and their potential to trigger price crashes. This paper explores bitcoin as an equity, and more specifically as the first equity ever launched by a non-hierarchical “teal” organization, ...
